Remember the covenant back in 2 Sam?
As a result of Solomon’s sin there was severe consequences however, God allowed Judah and one other tribe to remain. The reason that this happened is because God will remain true to His promise.
The northern Kingdom went through a ton of kings. The tragic thing is that none of the kings who ruled did what right in the eyes of the Lord.
The southern kingdom on the other hand a majority of kings who did what was evil in the eyes of God. However, they had 7 kings who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. (Asa, Jehoshaphat, Joash, Uzziah, Jotham, Hezekiah, and Josiah)
Hezekiah who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord dies. And his son Manassah rules in his place and he is said to be one of the worst kings.
In 2 Kings 17 the northern kingdom Israel is captured and dispersed in
722 BC. The theme of 2 kings is “Kingdom Destroyed” -
The Assyrians come in and Israel is then deported off to Assyria for 131 years.
The following chapters of 2 kings deals with the single kingdom –
Hezekiah – does what is right 2 Kings 21:1 – 20:21 Manasseh – 2 Kings 21:1-18 Amon – 2 Kings 21:19-26 Josiah – does what is right 2 Kings 21:26 – 23:30 Jehoahaz – 2 Kings 23:30-33 Jehoiakim – 2 Kings 23:34 – 24:5 Jehoiachin - 2 Kings 24:6-16; 25:27-30 Zedekiah – 2 Kings 24:17 – 25:7
2 Kings 24 the southern kingdom is led into exile in 586 BC by the Babylonians for 155 years -
So, what how does this change my life?
The majority of kings did not follow God. –
Are you following God? How?
What king of example are you setting for your friends?
Can they trust you b/c they know that you are committed to following God?
